Safeknot Kids – the app for your child's phone

Safeknot Kids is the part of Safeknot that runs on the child's phone. It works ONLY together with "Safeknot – Location & Child Safety App" on the parent's phone. Without that connection, Safeknot Kids has no function.

Parents set the app up together with the child and grant the required permissions. The child can always see that Safeknot is active.

WHY SAFEKNOT KIDS NEEDS ACCESSIBILITY

Safeknot Kids uses Android's AccessibilityService API. It is the basis for two core features:

App blocking and screen time: only through this interface does the app learn which application is currently in the foreground. That is what makes it possible to stop an app the parents have blocked and to count usage time per app.

Web filter: the address being opened is read from the browser's address bar in order to detect blocked pages – in every browser, not just one.

What does NOT happen: no keystroke logging, no passwords, no call recording, no sharing with third parties. Only which app is open and which web address is opened are evaluated.

WHY SAFEKNOT KIDS NEEDS THE VPN SERVICE

The web filter runs ON THIS DEVICE. For that, Safeknot Kids uses Android's VpnService.

Why it doesn't work without it: only through the VpnService can DNS requests be inspected on the device before a page loads. That way the filter works in EVERY browser and every app. Without this service a child could bypass the filter simply by opening a different browser.

The VPN tunnel is LOCAL and ends on the device itself:
• There is NO external VPN server.
• NO traffic is forwarded, redirected or recorded.
• Traffic from other apps is not modified and not monetised.
• Only the addresses being opened are checked.

Parents grant both permissions deliberately during setup and can revoke them in the Android settings at any time.

WHAT THE CHILD SEES IN THE APP

Tasks and appointments: homework, training, doctor's visits – created by the parents, with reminders. Tick off completed tasks and collect stars.

SOS button: one press notifies the parents together with the current location.

Messages: direct chat with the parents, without any third-party messenger.

Steps: the step counter shows daily movement.

HOW TO SET IT UP:
1. Parents install "Safeknot" on their phone.
2. Install Safeknot Kids on the child's phone.
3. Connect using the parent code.
4. Grant the permissions together.

NOTE FOR PARENTS
Safeknot is a child protection tool, not covert surveillance. Talk to your child about what has been set up. The app is visible on the device and does not run hidden.

The account and its data can be deleted in the parent app.
