About StoreTally
StoreTally is a daily census of five stores: the Chrome Web Store, Microsoft Edge Add-ons, Firefox Add-ons, the Apple App Store and Google Play. It finds every listing it can, reads what the store shows about it, and keeps a history of how that changes: users and installs, ratings, permissions, versions, and the listing's rank in its store. Growth and rank are worked out from that history.
Free and open
Everything on the site is free to use, with no paywall and no sign-up: history charts, every filter and sort, CSV and JSON downloads, and the reports. The data is free to reuse with attribution. Data & API lists the endpoints and the terms.
What it does differently
- Browse any store in depth. Each store has one page that searches, filters and sorts its whole catalogue by users, ratings, growth, age, rank or access. The “Find an idea” lenses are ready-made filters for questions like “which popular extensions are rated badly” or “which ones stopped being updated”.
- Permissions and access. Chrome and Edge extensions are read from their manifests, so you can see what each one is allowed to do in your browser and find others that ask for the same thing. See Permissions.
- Live reports. The reports are computed from the census on every refresh, not written once and left to go stale.
- Change history. Every version StoreTally has seen, when it shipped, and how users and ratings moved around it. Listings that leave a store stay on record as delisted.
