「死亡，既不是喜事，也不是喪事，而是一樁莊嚴的佛事。」法鼓山提倡的關懷，是全生命的關懷，從人一出生開始，歷經少年、青壯年，乃至年老、死亡的各個人生階段，都是大關懷涵攝的範疇。尤其，在死亡的面前，我們特別顯得無助而渺小，究竟，我們該怎麼面對這人生的最後一堂課呢？
「臨終關懷」APP收錄了聖嚴法師《生與死的尊嚴》、《為什麼要做佛事》、《超度真的有用嗎》、《如何能往生淨土》等17種文字及影音開示，以平易近人的文字，介紹佛教的生死觀，讓死亡不再只有悲悽痛苦，而是教導我們在面對生死示現時，如何才能夠利益臨終的親友，更學習如何運用佛法平安幸福地走完一生，走向永遠有希望的未來，進而解脫生死苦海的束縛。
聖嚴教育基金會出版的「智慧隨身書」，是法鼓山流通最廣的結緣書，有系統地整理節錄了聖嚴法師的開示，引導民眾循序了解佛法，開啟智慧。
1995年，聖嚴法師於紐約曾提到 :「我對未來的佛教傳播事業，抱有無限的希望和堅定的信念⋯⋯，在軟體方面，除了正統性的佛經整理及闡釋之外，也應當密切配合並運用現代化的科技媒體及其專才，多樣化地表達佛法的內涵。為了推廣佛法，深入人心，表達的形式是可以隨時隨地開發新的面貌。」
因應智慧型手機時代來臨，APP已成為許多人生活與學習的好幫手，聖嚴教育基會籌畫了《智慧隨身書》的APP應用，針對不同族群及需求，規畫出「學佛入門」、「禪修入門」、「生活佛教」、「心靈環保」、「心生活運動」、「心六倫」、「自我成長」、「心青年」、「佛化家庭」、「臨終關懷」、「無盡身教」及「Chan Buddhism」等12個中英文主題。
